As a Textile Industry Practitioner, the 14 Coatings You Should Know

Coated fabric: It is a kind of fabric treated by special technology. It can make a layer of uniform covering rubber material on the surface of the fabric, so as to achieve waterproof, windproof, breathable, and other functions.

01 PA Coating

PA coating, polyacrylate fabric coating adhesive (Polyacrylate referred to as PA), also known as AC adhesive coating, that is, acrylic coating, is currently the most common and most common kind of coating. It can increase the feel, windproof, and drape. Commonly used in anti-fleece, hand feel, solid color, and solid sand. There are also acrylic, pony glue, that is, solvent acrylic coating, suitable for water pressure resistant coating, the price is slightly higher than AC.

PA Coating

Advantages.

a, good fastness to sunlight and climate, not easy to yellowing;

b, good transparency and co-compatibility, conducive to the production of colored coated products.

  1. Good washing resistance.
  2. Strong adhesion.
  3. Lower cost.

Disadvantages.

a, poor elasticity, easy to wrinkle;

b, poor surface finish.

c, difficult to adjust the hand feel.

02 PU Coating

Polyurethane coating (Polyurethane abbreviated as PU), full name is polyurethane, after the fabric hand feel is rich and elastic, the surface has a film feeling.

PU Coating

PU coating is the molecular structure containing -NHCOO- a unit of polymer compounds, the unit by the isocyanate group and hydroxyl reaction from the reaction formula is as follows: -N = C = O + HO ˉ → -NH-COOˉ.

In the 1970s, PU was first synthesized in Germany, around 1950, PU appeared in Europe as a textile finishing agent, but most of them were solvent-based products used for dry coating finishing. In the 1960s, due to the enhancement of people’s environmental awareness and the introduction of government environmental regulations, water-based PU coating came into being. In the 70s, water-based PU coating developed rapidly, and PU-coated fabrics have been widely used. Since the 80’s, there has been a breakthrough in the research and application technology of PU. The polyurethane coating agent is the main type of development today.

PU coating agents can be divided into polyester-based polyurethane; polyether-based polyurethane; aromatic isocyanate-based polyurethane; and aliphatic isocyanate-based polyurethane. According to the use of the medium is divided into solvent and water-based categories.

Advantages:

a, the coating is soft and flexible.

b, coating strength is good, and can be used for very thin coatings;

c, The coating is porous, with moisture permeability and air ventilation properties;.

d, Abrasion resistance, moisture resistance, and dry cleaning resistance.

Disadvantages:

a Higher cost;

b, poor weather resistance.

c, to be hydrolyzed in case of water, heat, and alkali.

03  Anti-down Coating

It means downproof coating, which can prevent down from running after coating, and is suitable for making down jacket fabrics.

However, nowadays, the PA coating is also called downproof coating when there is a water pressure requirement.

04 PU White Glue Coating

That is, the surface of the fabric is coated with a layer of white polyurethane resin, the role is the same as PA white glue, but PU white glue is coated to make the fabric feel more plump, the fabric is more elastic, and better fastness.

PU White Glue Coating

05 PA Silver Glue Coating

That is, the surface of the fabric is coated with a layer of silver-white adhesive so that the fabric has a light-blocking, radiation-imitating function, generally used for curtains, tents, and clothing.

PA Silver Glue Coating

06 PU Silver Adhesive Coating

It has the same basic function as PA silver rubber coating. However, PU silver-coated fabrics have better elasticity, and better fastness, for tents and other fabrics that require high water pressure, PU silver-coated fabrics are better than PA silver-coated.

07 Pearl Coating

By pearl coating the surface of the fabric, it gives the surface of the fabric a pearl-like luster, available in silver and color. It is very beautiful to make garments. There are PA pearl and PU pearl points, PU pearl than PA pearl is more flat and bright, the film feels better.

08 Glossy Coating

After coating, the surface is smooth and oily, family daily use, generally applicable to do tablecloth tablecloth.

09 Silicon High Elasticity Coating

Also called paper feel coating. Thin cotton fabric, it is very suitable for shirt fabrics, feels full, is very crisp and elastic, with strong resilience, and anti-wrinkle. For thick fabrics, good elasticity and fastness.

10 Leather Film Coating

By calendering and coating the surface of the fabric, a leather film is formed on the surface of the fabric, completely changing the style of the fabric. Generally, the surface of the film is made into the front side of the garment, which has the style of a leather jacket. There are two kinds of matte and glossy, and various colors can be added to the coating to make a colorful film, which is very beautiful.

11 Flame Retardant Coating

The fabric will have the function of flame retardant after the impregnating or coating. The coating can be painted in color or silver on the surface of the fabric. Generally made into curtains, tents, and garments.

12 DuPont Teflon Coating

By treating the fabric with DuPont Teflon, the fabric is made water, oil, and stain-resistant.

13 UV Resistant Coating

By applying anti-UV treatment to fabrics, the fabrics are made UV resistant, i.e. the ability to stop UV rays from penetrating. Generally light color is more difficult to do, and dark color is easier to meet the standard. For example, the coating of sunscreen umbrellas, sunscreen clothing, and other fabrics on the market.

14 Specialized Cotton Coating

Such as cotton scrape color coating, paper sense coating, old washing coating, hidden grain coating, oil sense wax sense coating, color leather film coating, etc.
