Description

Application

Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester is a handy instrument for testing the Wyzenbeek abrasion resistance. In the testing, according to the Wyzenbeek abrasion test method, fix the sample fabrics on a standard abrasive or a wire mesh. Then it rubs on a curved surface in a forward and backward motion for a defined period of time. The Wyzenbeek abrasion tester is available for fabric manufacturers in the automotive and furniture industry.

Wyzenbeek abrasion tester consists of 4 abrasion heads and an electronic digital counter to control the number of cycles. Besides, it is in accordance with the standard  ASTM D4157. If you are searching for information about  ASTMD4157 pdf, you can click here.

Features of Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester

  • Easy to control due to the precision electronic digital counter.
  • The protective cover provides protection and thus more safety.
  • Four abrasion heads to test samples simultaneously, thus greater efficiency.

The definition of Wyzenbeek

The double rub is a way to measure the abrasion resistance and durability of fabrics, one of which refers to back-and-forth motion. The vast majority of fabrics require double rub testing to facilitate the determination of which fabric is suitable for a specific application. Double rubs are determined by an automated test known as the Wyzenbeek Test, also named the Wyzenbeek Method.

Wyzenbeek vs Martindale

In North America, the Wyzenbeek Method is the standard measure of a fabric’s abrasive resistance. A stiff cotton cloth is laid over a machine and rubbed all over a fabric sample. The rubbing from sitting on a seat cushion is what the test attempts to replicate. Each backward and forward motion makes up one rub. The test needs to stop when the fabric shows visible wear, two yarn breaks, or 15,000 double rubs, which is regarded as overintense for domestic purposes.

The Martindale Method for fabric abrasion tests is widely available in Europe and Asia. It is well-known that this method is more accurate than the Wyzenbeek. Laying the fabric sample flat then stroke in an adapted figure-eight movement against a piece of smooth woolen cloth. Finally, count the number of cycles the fabric endures before revealing some signs of wear.

The American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) acknowledges and accepts these two abrasion test methods.

Conversion to process Martindale into Wyzenbeek

The rating ratio of Martindale to Wyzenbeek ratio is 4:3, while their units are equal.

For instance: 20,000 Martindale = 15,000 Wyzenbeek = the industrial benchmark for heavy-duty domestic upholstery.

  1. Viktor Fejes

I must say the wyzenbeek abrasion test on this machine is smooth, but I will the acrylic case could be a better design

  2. Steve

This wyzenbeek abrasion tester really helps to solve my problems, but the lead time took a bit longer than expected

  3. Carl Roland

The machine worked great and was very easy to use and setup. Thanks manufacturer.

    Q: What is Wyzenbeek test?

A: Double rubs are a measurement of a fabric’s abrasion resistance. They are listed with most fabrics and are helpful in determining which fabric is right for your particular application. Double rubs are found through a mechanized test called the Wyzenbeek Test (sometimes called the Wyzenbeek Method). According to wikipedia, in the US, the Wyzenbeek test is often used instead of the Martindale.

Q: Do you know Wyzenbeek rating chart?

A: There are two charts for your reference.

    Double Rubs for Residential Applications[table id=892 /]

    Double Rubs for Commercial Applications[table id=893 /]

Q: What's the difference between Martindale vs Wyzenbeek?

A: Martindale and Wyzenbeek are rub tests, which measure different properties of fabrics. Martindale is a test rubbing in figure 8, and Wyzenbeek rubbing along the warp and weft directions. Martindale is the preferred test in Europe; Wyzenbeek is preferred in the United States.

Q: Why is the price of TF212 Oscillatory / Wyzenbeek Abrasion Tester higher than other peers?

A: You can see the details of machine from the figure or the video, which is same as the SDL’s, even goes beyond some parts of the SDL’s. What’s more, we are sure that we are unique in manufacturing technique of this machine, and other suppliers will not possess this technique. Although they can manufacture it, they can only produce the machine with the same appearance but different internal structure.
