What is the burning smoke density of material?

The main characteristics of material combustion are: smoke particles, burned weight, ash weight, and smoke percentage. When the sample is placed in a certain volume of test box, the specific light density of the material, also known as the smoke density of the material combustion, is calculated through the change of the light transmittance of the parallel beam of smoke in the test box during the combustion of the sample.

Test Specification

The smoke density tester is used to measure the characteristics of smoke formation of plastics or building materials under specific combustion or decomposition conditions. It can measure the amount of smoke obscuration through the loss of light transmission in the smoke under specified conditions.

The test is divided into two kinds: flame combustion and flameless combustion

Flameless combustion: When a specimen is exposed only to radiation from a radiator, it is known as flameless combustion.

Flame combustion: The combustion system with a radiator in the test box. When the sample is exposed to both radiation and combustion system, it is called flame combustion.
