The fiber length tester is improved with the following technologies: uses tension load to stop rotation axis more timely and more secure; with automatic pneumatic clamp instead of tweezers, the operation is more convenient quickly; variable speed stepper motor controls rotation axis, more precise, length measurement accuracy at low speed is 0.5mm; the computer controls the whole process of measurement, and the fiber length distribution statistics, and all data can be exported and in-depth analysis.

What is Fiber Length Index?

Fiber length refers to the distance between the two ends measured when the fiber is straightened without the influence of an external force. The fiber length unit of measurement is millimeter(mm).

Fiber length is the basis of determining spinning equipment and spinning process parameters, and it is also an important factor to determine yarn quality, so fiber length is an important index to measure fiber quality. Chemical fiber length can be controlled artificially, natural fiber length is formed naturally, so it is particularly important.

Take cotton fiber as an example, the cotton fiber length is not uniform, generally speaking, the modal length, quartile length, evenness, and short fiber content are used to express the length and distribution of cotton fiber. The modal length is the length of the fiber with the highest content in cotton fiber. Quartile length refers to the average length of the fiber that is longer than the modal length, which is used to determine the roller gauge in the spinning process. Short fiber content refers to the weight of the fiber as a percentage of the total fiber that which fiber length less than a certain length limit. Generally, when the short fiber content is more than 15%, the yarn strength and evenness will become significantly worse.

Classification of Fibre Length Test Methods

According to the test method, it can be divided into two types: single fiber length measurement and bundle fiber measurement. According to the test principle, there are six kinds of testing methods: hand-drawn ruling-method, circle counting method, photoelectric reflection method, photoelectric shading method, capacitance induction method, and mechanical compression method.

The common methods are as follows: hand-drawn single fiber straightener ruling-method (international standard method), manual straightening parallel end length method (hand pulling method), instrument straightening parallel end capacitance detection method; automatic layout photoelectric shading method (photograph fiber length test method). The latter two types of fiber length tester can be automatically tested, data processing and automatic printing.

Characteristics of Single Fiber Length Test
